Last, but not least (and maybe the most pleasant), we'll discuss core belief #5 behind our work at Catalyst. We all know that a toxic and unhealthy workplace dynamic will spill into your personal life, but the good news is that it goes both ways.
5 | The skills it takes to attain and maintain a healthy work culture can and will improve your personal life as well.
My friend was in need of some advice on how to deal with her new colleagues that were underperforming consistently months after they were expected to be independent. We went over some skills to help her manage and empower the new staff, focusing on how to leverage ways in which thew new staff feels heard and appreciated. After a few months, she was able to get the colleague where she needed them to be and thanked me with two bottles of my favorite chardonnay. One bottle for helping her with her coworker and the other for helping her with her husband. She sensed my confusion and explained that she regularly struggled with him not following through consistently on house chores. She told me how she applied some of the skills she used with her coworker – tailoring the ask and positive reinforcement specifically to his love languages and coming from a place of curiosity when he struggled to follow through. Influencing and healthy work culture skills strike again!
We’ve all heard the saying “marriage takes work”, but it doesn't stop there. This applies to all relationships – with coworkers, our supervisor, our kids.
Yes, relationships take work, but it doesn’t have to feel hard, which is why I’ve included strategy, reframing, and communication skills into our Strengthening Relationships offering.
Think: building productive and effective relationships with ease.
Bonus: everything you learn in this package can and will improve relationships across every aspect of your life.
